SWINDON 2008

The Phoenix as always enjoyed the trip to Swindon to rekindle old friendships and to pit themselves against some of the best teams in the English Leagues.

A tentative start saw their first game against Flintshire end without score. Next up Chelmsford, second in Div1 South last season where they cane out on top 2-1. The Firbees gave a spirited defence but ended losing 4-0. Then it was Slough, top team of the English Premiership, a spirited effort saw the Phoenix lose 3-1. Sunday's first game saw the Phoenix lose out to hosts Swindon 3-0, followed by a close fought game with Basingstoke Bison which went the wrong way at 2-1. Next up was Oxford Midnight Stars, and despite doing everything right it was another loss this time 1-0.

Old Captain Suzi Grieve and NM Sally Greewell were on the bench for the next game vs Cardiff, it finished 2-0 but this was a great game whoever you supported. Old adversays Telford came next and an exciting end to end game saw  honours shared. Last game of the contest was Bracknell QB's which ended 3-0 to the QB's.

A great tournament and a huge success for Swindon once again despite the QB's eventuallly taking the cup, well done to all.

MVP went to Hannah Southam but excellent performances from everyone inolved made this a fantastic even if a tiring weekend.

NEXT SEASON

The Phoenix will be playing in the new Midlands Div1 next year as the AGM this year voted for 3 leagues in Div1. We are joined by Peterborough, Telford, Oxford Uni and the Midnight Stars, along with Milton Keynes, looks interesting already.

The team are as always looking forward to the challenge as this will definitely be that.

The Phoenix have been seeded 3rd in the league and as such will be playing Telford (1st) and Milton Keynes (2nd) both twice home and away.

Our home dates have been allocated and are currently being added to the rest of the teams allocations in the league, we hope to have the full schedule shortly.
