

WOMEN'S DIVISION 1 NORTH

The Phoenix travelled up to the sunny climbs of Kingston upon Hull and like last
year were short benched. With Katie Higgins recovering from medical treatment, Rosie
Adey on crutches and 5 other regular stalwarts unavailable this was going to be an
interesting game. On arrival we noticed a few of the players for Hull who also play
for their Premier team arriving in their GB tracksuits and to say there was a look
of trepidation from some would be an understatement. However the team remained up
beat and if there is one thing the Phoenix do well its laughing in the face of adversity.
We all knew what we lacked in skill would be made up for in grit and determination.
The first period saw a spirited start with shots from both sides, however the goal
judge behind the Hull game must have been watching something else as the count was
woeful. At the other end Tam Donoghue was, as always superb, heavy shot counts mean
nothing to her and it wasn’t until the last 2 mins of the period the breakthrough
came.. Period 2 saw the Hull side up the pace and their Premier players going in
search of goals, whilst the Phoenix NM watched 2 go past her she once again was
up to most challenges. The third period was goalless and although the Phoenix lost

As the season fast approach’s its almost time for training to begin, after a few short weeks break it starts all over again.
Training takes place on Friday nights at 10.45pm and last approximately 1 hour.
